Resumen

Las plantas han desarrollado una gran diversidad de vías de señalización que convergen en la expresión genética para adaptarse a situaciones adversas del ambiente. Uno de los pasos fundamentales en la decodificación de la información contenida en los genes para la síntesis de proteínas es el proceso de transcripción, en el que participan elementos en las secuencias de los promotores, la RNA polimerasa II y sus factores asociados. En la última década se ha evidenciado la participación fundamental de un andamiaje multiproteínico denominado MEDIADOR, que orquesta la unión de diversos factores de transcripción con la maquinaria de síntesis de RNA para la regulación de la expresión de genes que participan en las respuestas a estímulos ambientales, hormonales o nutrimentales. En este artículo se revisa la participación de las subunidades de dicho complejo en las respuestas al estrés abiótico generado por condiciones de crecimiento desfavorables para los vegetales.
