Clinical aptitude of family physicians and residents for the management of preeclampsia-eclampsia at the primary care level: a cross-sectional study in a public institution in Zacapu, Michoacán

Hypertensive diseases of pregnancy are the leading causes of death worldwide. Knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia has among primary care medical personnel helps identify areas of opportunity to establish appropriate educational strategies. Here, we applied a questionnaire on clinical aptitude in primary care for the management of preeclampsia and eclampsia via descriptive statistics and association among categoric variables (X2, p valor <0.05) and SPSS v.23 program for analysis. The level of clinical aptitude for tha management of preeclamspia-eclampsia at the primary care level was very high (8.3%; n = 5), high (48.3%; n = 29), medium (11.7%; n = 7), low (10.0%; n = 6), very low (16.7%; n = 10) and random (5.0%; n = 3). It is concluded that the level of clinical aptitude for the management of preeclampsia-eclampsia in primary care is high; however, there are areas of opportunity that can be strengthened by establishing educational strategies.
