Arabidopsis thaliana plants inoculated with Azospirillum baldaniorum Sp245 increase ascorbic acid level and decrease the expression of TOR kinase (Target of Rapamycin) and cell division in the root.

Ascorbic acid (AA) is involved in cell elongation and division processes. The effect of Azospirillum baldaniorum Sp245 on the accumulation of AA, the protein kinase TOR (Target of Rapamycin), and cell division in Arabidopsis thaliana is reported. Inoculation with Sp245 increased AA accumulation in the foliage, while its addition inhibited plant growth, TOR expression, and cell division in the root meristem. AA also increased the production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Furthermore, H2O2 decreased TOR expression and its activity on its target protein S6K. The relationship between AA, TOR, and H2O2 during the bio-stimulation of Arabidopsis by Sp245 is discussed.
