Characterization of the physical properties of adobe in vernacular houses in Santiago Amatlán, Oaxaca
Main Article Content
Abstract
The loss of architectural heritage represents a problem in Mexico due to the lack of knowledge of its techniques and characteristics, in addition to the lack of regulations. This research is part of CONACYT’s PRONAII 321260, and seeks to preserve traditional construction systems in marginalized municipalities. CONAVI statistics indicate that Santiago Amatlán, Oaxaca, has high levels of poverty and a progressive abandonment of traditional materials. In the present work, the physical properties of adobe in vernacular houses of the community were characterized, which will facilitate its preservation and promote its appropriate use in new constructions that are part of the cultural heritage of the region.
