Removal of water contaminants in artificial wetlands of subsurface flow, using Typha domingensis, tezontle and crushed gravel and their relationship with hydraulic conductivity
Main Article Content
Abstract
Artificial wetlands are a viable alternative for wastewater treatment, because of their low costs, particularly in the case of low density populations.
In this work, artificial subsurface flow wetlands were used. Those artificial wetlands were constructed at Information, Art and Culture Center of the UMSNH, with tezontle and crushed gravel as substrate, materials from the region, and vegetated with Typha dominguensis, also from the region.
Regarding NOM-001-SEMARNAT-1996, in terms of temperature, pH, BOD5, SST, and SSed present in the effluent, both wetlands comply, so hydraulic conductivity is not decisive, however, removal is greater with tezontle as a substrate than with crushed gravel.
