Evaluation of the water quality of springs located in the El Platanal community, Michoacán, Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
The water quality of six springs that supply drinking and irrigation water to El Platanal community, in Jacona, Michoacán, was evaluated. Two sampling campaigns were carried out, one in the dry season and the second in the rainy season. Physicochemical and microbiological parameters and trace elements were evaluated. The predominant type of water in the area was Ca2+-HCO3-. Fe concentrations (0.8 mg/L) were found above the maximum permissible limits by Mexican standards. The Water Quality Index (WQI) showed that the water in the study area is not suitable for drinking, but it is suitable for agricultural irrigation.
