Abstract
Hygroscopic characteristics of the wood of Enterolobium cyclocarpum, Cupressus lindleyi and Cedrela odorata. The objective of the research was to determine the basic density, the moisture content, the volumetric hygroscopic coefficient, the saturation point of the fiber, the maximum moisture content, the percent of the cell wall and the percentage of empty spaces, of the wood of E. cyclocarpum, C. lindleyi and C. odorata. For each species, 32 small specimens were prepared and hygroscopic tests were carried out, which consisted of measuring their weights and dimensions before and after hydrating treatments and drying the specimens. The experimental design proposed tests of normality in the distribution of independent samples, verification tests and analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis. It is concluded that the magnitudes of the basic density and characteristics of E. cyclocarpum, C. lindleyi and C. odorata are of the same order and follow the statistical trends as those reported in the literature. However, the values are different for each species, but they are positioned close to the statistical trends of the bibliography data.
