Analysis of the change in land use and vegetation cover on the recharge of the Morelia-Queréndaro aquifer using the SWAT model
Abstract
Land use is a constantly changing variable, influenced by factors such as population growth, urbanization, and deforestation. The objective of this study is to analyze land-use change and its effect on the recharge of the Morelia-Queréndaro aquifer using the SWAT model. The main changes in land-use are in evergreen forest and mixed forest, with an increase and a reduction of 5.76% and 6.69%, respectively. The mean anual recharge obtained is 50.06 mm and 40.50 mm, for the periods 1995–2007 and 2008–2020, respectively. The decrease in recharge is attributed to land-use change and a reduction in mean annual precipitation since 2014.
