Preparation of hot mix asphalt with the addition of construction and demolition waste as a substitute for natural stone aggregate
Main Article Content
Abstract
Materials are the raw material for construction; however, some of them produce pollution from the moment they are obtained and/or processed. In the case of road pavements and with the purpose of reducing the environmental impact, we propose the use of recycled materials, specifically waste from construction and demolition of buildings and constructions (RCD) that have reached the end of their useful life, to reincorporate them in the preparation of asphalt mixtures. The design was carried out with 20% substitution of recycled material for natural coarse aggregates, obtaining comparable performances with the control mix designed with 100% natural stone aggregate, both mixes complying with the requirements established by the regulations for the design traffic of one million to 10 million equivalent axles, according to the Marshall methodology.
