Abstract
The management of bio-hazardous and infectious waste from veterinarians in Morelia: a model of analysis.
Bio-hazardous and infectious waste is defined by the Mexican official regulations as all the materials that can be produced mainly during the medical-health care services and that contains agents with bio infectious properties that can damage public health and environment. Veterinarians produce this type of waste, but, since they are not identified in a punctual manner by the legislation, there is confusion about the fact that this kind of establishments are subjects of the law. This document contents a review of 69 establishments of this type through surveys. Despite the fact that 94.2% of veterinarians give their waste to an authorized company for collection, 63.8% did not know the law and 44.9% has never received training on the subject. Situations that suggest management deficiencies, especially in terms of handling it in the sites of production.
