Contaminación atmosférica por incendios forestales en Morelia, Michoacán

In this study, the weekend with the highest number of days above the Mexican PM2.5 particle standard is reported for the first time in Morelia Michoacán, Mexico. This incident, according to the proposed models was due to the combined effect of changes in pollution concentrations by NO2, O3, PM10, and adverse weather conditions; the contribution of forest fires and agricultural burning, mainly from May 9 to 17, 2019 was 20%. Date, in which the official Mexican standard NOM-025-SSA1-2014, which sets the allowed value of 45μg / m3 as the daily average of PM2.5 was exceeded on May 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 16 with 66μg / m3, 48μg / m3, 61μg / m3, 58μg / m3, 49μg / m3 and 53μg / m3. These values, together with April 29-30 and May 3 with 51μg / m3, 53μg / m3 and 48μg / m3 respectively, increased to 9 days above the official standard. The accumulated experience of the years 2016/2017, suggests that the high concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 particles observed in these months. It is an opportunity for the authorities responsible for the environment of the Government of the State of Michoacán, to initiate a call for the design and regulation of an air quality index, as well as an environmental contingency program for Morelia.
