Determinación de la huella hídrica del sector turístico de Guanajuato capital
Keywords:
water footprint, urban heritage tourism, water management, water stressAbstract
Guanajuato City faces increasing pressure on its water resources due to the high concentration of tourism in its historic city center, within a regional context characterized by water stress. Despite its economic relevance, tourism has not been explicitly incorporated into local water resource planning. This study estimates the direct Water Footprint (WF) of the tourism sector by analyzing visitor profiles and water consumption in accommodation, food service establishments, and sanitary facilities. The results show that, although the percentage of direct consumption is moderate relative to the total volume extracted, tourism represents a significant and spatially concentrated water user. This research provides a methodological and quantitative basis for integrating the tourism sector into urban water management and for advancing governance models that articulate sustainability, heritage conservation and territorial equity.
