Huella hídrica azul directa en Guanajuato capital: diagnóstico de patrones de consumo y escenarios de gestión sostenible

This study assesses the Direct Blue Water Footprint (DBWF) of the water supply system in Guanajuato City (2019–2024) by analyzing the interaction between surface water and groundwater sources under seasonal climatic conditions. Using the Water Footprint Network methodology, the study considered water abstraction, evaporation, and physical efficiency. The average annual DFWF was approximately 10 million m³. The results reveal consumption disparities between urban areas and seasons, indicating greater pressure on groundwater sources during dry periods. The scenario analysis demonstrates that integrating improvements in technical efficiency with demand reduction can reduce the HHAD by up to 21.73%. These results confirm that combining both measures optimizes resource use and significantly alleviates pressure on the Silao-Romita aquifer.
