Abstract

In recent decades, due to strong hurricane winds in Mexico, several self-supporting towers for telecommunications have collapsed, causing significant economic and social losses. Self-supporting telecommunications towers are highly sensitive to the dynamic effects of wind loads. The objective of this work is to compare the dynamic response of self-supporting towers in terms of displacements, using synthetic wind histories of atmospheric and hurricane winds. Synthetic atmospheric wind histories were simulated by applying the spectral method of two and four parameters, and the methodology called synthetic wind. The hurricane wind histories were made using the Monte Carlo technique.
