Abstract

Introduction: Dropping out of the Bachelor of Public Health is a problem that occurs every year, most of the dropouts show a lack of interest in the career and desire to enter another degree. Objective: To know the factors that contribute to the process of school desertion in the degree in Public Health. Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional study in a group of 250 students of the different semesters of the Degree in Public Health, UMSNH, school period 2018-2019, through a questionnaire of 14 questions, mixed type, to know the opinion of the students about the factors that contribute to the school dropout process in its context. Results: for 71% public health was not their first choice of study, 56.4% did not know the discharge profile, 73.6% said they knew a deserter of the degree, 72.4% did not think of dropping out of the degree, for 55% of the students his first choice was medicine, 52% agreed to enter because he found it interesting, 71% said they still have a career in the curriculum, 43% would like to work in the hospital area when they graduate, 66% of the students plan to do a graduate degree, 34 % said that the desertion of their peers was due to lack of interest in the degree, 28% asked to be linked with more work spaces and 53% said that what they do not like about school is the lack of knowledge of some teachers about the subject they teach
