Main Article Content
Abstract
The Internal migration in young students is a visible phenomenon in different parts of Mexico, where a large number of students decide to move from one place to another to have the opportunity to study a university career, going through changing processes and psychosocial adaptation. The goal of this research was to describe the process of elaboration and the psychometric characteristics of three scales to evaluate migrant students that live in university shelters, that in the case of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo are called "Houses of studentsâ€. Participated 200 pregrade students, 158 men and 42 women between 18 to 26 years old, with an average age of 21.13 (SD= 1.95). As a result, it was posible to elaborate three scales: 1) Motives for Migration (α=.75), integrated with 5 items; 2) Problems in the shelter (α=.81) with 6 items, and, 3) Adaptation and looking for support (α=.75) with 5 items. The use of these scales will allow to identify students in a risk situation, to whom deliver, in an opportune way, the student support services that are needed to facilitate their adaptation processes to the university life, in the academic and socioaffective areas, improving the probability to successfully conclude their pregrade studies.
