Abstract

Climate data are fundamental for modeling hydrological, agricultural, and climatic processes, yet their quality varies across sources, introducing errors. This study compared temperature and precipitation data from CONAGUA stations and NASA POWER satellite data using percentage difference and linear regression. The hypothesis posits that percentage differences between both sources remain constant over time, enabling climate data estimation in low-coverage regions. Among 34 stations, 11 met the <25% error threshold (MAE/RMSE/MAPE). Temperature exhibited the lowest error (MAPE=0.3% with regression), while precipitation showed comparable performance with an advantage for percentage difference. Results revealed significant climatic heterogeneity. The percentage difference is a viable alternative in data-scarce contexts.
