Mexican ethnopedology: 43 years of experience

Abstract
In the present writing the history of the research line called Ethnoedaphology or Ethnopedology is mentioned, with more than 40 years of experience in our institution, which we have divided for its description into three stages: Initial Period 1978-1981, in that Dr. Barbara J. Williams and her historical approach, based on early colony codices, was met; Intermediate Period 1981-1987, starting work with contemporary local knowledge, making mistakes and learning from them and; Cartographic Period 1987-2021, demonstrating that it was possible to make high-quality, fast, cheap and simple soil maps, mixing the knowledge of the producers with the scientific one. Finally, the impact of this discipline at the national and international level.
